The Belvoir Estate has owned and let properties for centuries. Today, while some of the properties on the Estate are very old indeed and others are quite new, most of the farmhouses and cottages date from a huge rebuilding programme in early 19th century that was started just after the build of the present Castle was completed.
The Estate has an on-going programme to renovate the older properties and bring them up to modern standards. Such renovations may include damp proofing, re-plastering, new kitchens and bathrooms, new carpets and new garden gates and drives, and are best done when the property is empty.
There are up to about eight empty properties at any one time undergoing renovation or major improvement. Once they are completed, they are again made available to let through the Estate’s agency – Belvoir Lettings. Less disruptive modernisation work is also continually being carried out on properties that are occupied.
By no means all the Estate’s properties need renovation and the short term target is to complete all the smaller cottages and farmhouses that do need it – and in the longer term to complete all the larger properties, some of which are noticeably deteriorating.
Belvoir has an Estate Property Manager – who heads up a team of about 25 contracted bricklayers, joiners, plasterers, labourers, electricians, and plumbers.
Around the local villages the team also work on improving tidiness. Mending crumbling stone walls, removing ivy and replacing fences and gates are just some of the ongoing tasks.

It’s an exciting time at Belvoir for the re-development programme of the Engine Yard. A series of buildings which were originally built for the trades to use as workshops for producing furniture, doors and windows for the castle, Belvoir are planning on renovating all these units to turn into rural retail destination (mini village)
Already confirmed is a part of the yard being used for a farm shop, delicatessen and restraunt.
