Hedgerow Planting
The planting of hedgerows is becoming increasingly important as farmland bird numbers continue to plummet across the UK.
Hedgerows provide essential nesting sites, cover from predators and corridors between fragmented landscapes, however after rationing in World War II, farmers were encouraged to remove them in order to grow more crops.
At Belvoir, our groundsmen are working hard to plant miles of hedgerows and are aiming to plant 1.7km every year! Once they grow, they will be a safe haven for our wonderful birds and insects. Check out our habitat fact files for more information on hedges!
