Belvoir Castle will be re-opening to the public on certain days between March and October 2018.

Due to Belvoir Castle being the family home to the Rutland Family we are only open on selected days throughout the year, please click here for our full year calendar to check our opening dates before travelling.

Our Tea Room inside the castle is open on days we are open to the public offering a selection of sandwiches, home-made cakes & scones served with jam & cream & a choice of 2 scrumptious afternoon teas.

Our normal hours of opening are 11:00am – 5:30pm.

Ticket Office opens at 10:30am.

Please allow at least 15 minutes to walk from the ticket office to the Castle, the walk up to the Castle from the car park is up hill and is a little bit steep.  Please speak to the ticket office staff if you require a car park pass that allows you to park up at the castle.

Visits to the Castle are either by free flow or a guided tour.

Free flow admission 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Guided tours take place at 11:30am, 1:30pm & 3:00pm.

Castle Guides will be available to answer questions and help with information.

Castle door closed at 5:00pm.

Ticket office gate locked at 5:30pm.

There are various terrains around the castle, gardens and woodlands, we advise all our visitors to wear flat sensible shoes with grips.

 
Visitors are allowed to bring well behaved dogs into the gardens & parkland, they must be kept on their lead and as is usual any dog mess must be picked up & disposed off.
Only registered assisted dogs are allowed access into the castle & our tearoom.

 
Historic Houses members are entitled to a free flow to the castle & access to the garden admission ticket when a valid membership card is presented at our ticket office.
Members are able to upgrade their admission ticket to a guided tour of the castle & access to the gardens ticket for an additional charge of £2.00 per person.

Tours of the Private Quarters

On limited Mondays throughout our open season we are able to offer a tour of the private side of the Castle to give a glimpse of what life is like for the families who have lived here.

The cost of this tour is £45 per person and includes a full tour of the Castle, the private side tour and access to the gardens.

On the day of your visit we suggest that you join the guided tour of the castle at 11:30am, this takes approximately one to one and a half hours and then you would have your private quarters tour at 2:00pm which takes approximately one hour.

Please note that NO photography within the Castle is allowed and we ask that mobile phones be switched off whilst in the Castle.

We welcome all coach and group tours at Belvoir 20 or more. These will be by conducted tours at times to be arranged to suit.

Guided Tour of the Castle and Gardens

Join a member of our devoted team and take a journey through time at Belvoir Castle, home to the Duke of Rutland’s family since 1067. Belvoir castle sits in the heart of the vale of Belvoir and is one of the finest examples of Regency architecture in the world.

Your day will also include the opportunity to meander through our beautifully established formal gardens on a variety of walks and trails, new for 2016 never been seen before. Our Rose Garden, Spiral walk, Japanese Woodland, Duchesses Garden, Hermits Garden and Dukes Walk.

Capability Brown Tour

Discover the ‘lost’ work of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown on one of our specialist Capability tours.

These never seen before stunning views and vistas that capability had planned for Belvoir over 250 years ago can now be seen. This full day experience includes a presentation of the life and work of Capability, a look at a copy of the original manuscript of his plans, a gun bus tour of the estate so that you can see his vision through your eyes and lunch served in our Stewards restaurant.

Q Do you cater for wheelchair users/Less abled?
Admission into the Castle is free for wheelchair users (ground floor only). There are WCs for disabled visitors in the castle and ticket office car park. Disabled and fragile persons can ask at the ticket office for a car pass to drive up the hill and park near to the Castle.

Some of the gardens can be viewed from wheelchair friendly paths, however due to the natural terrain not all pathways are wheelchair friendly.  We have various terrains around the gardens and woodlands, some are paving slabs, gravel or just pathways through the woodlands, there are also steps in some of the gardens.

Q Do you allow Dogs at Belvoir?
Only guide, hearing and support dogs are permitted in the castle, however you may bring your dog with you into the gardens & grounds providing it is on a lead and you clear up any dog mess.

Q Can I take photographs?
With pleasure of the grounds and outside, but photographs of the inside of the castle is not permitted unless you have permission to do so prior to your visit.

Q How long does a guided tour take?
It usually takes between an hour to an hour and a half for a complete tour of the Castle.

Q Do you allow picnics in the grounds?
We have a number of picnic tables by our Ticket Office and the grassy areas by the car park are perfect for a picnic, but not within the garden areas.
